Our Community’s Role in Protecting America’s Edge in Space
June 15, 2026
Space has become one of the most important arenas for national security, economic growth, and technological innovation in the 21st century.
As other nations, especially China, continue to try to expand their capabilities in space exploration, satellite deployment, and related defense technologies, the United States faces growing pressure to maintain its leadership position.
Recently, I introduced H.R. 8198 the Outpace in Space Act, legislation focused on strengthening America’s competitiveness in space.
The proposal is part of a broader effort in Congress about how to ensure the United States remains at the forefront of innovation, security, and scientific advancement in orbit and beyond.
- Strengthening America’s Space Industrial Base — Supporting domestic innovation, manufacturing capacity, and advanced aerospace technologies critical to U.S. competitiveness.
- Enhancing National Security Coordination — Improving coordination between federal agencies and strategic partners involved in space and defense operations.
- Supporting Research and Development — Encouraging continued investment in next-generation technologies, satellite systems, and emerging aerospace capabilities.
- Promoting American Leadership in Space — Reinforcing the United States’ position as the global leader in commercial, civil, and national security space activities.
- Reducing Reliance on Foreign Adversaries — Addressing vulnerabilities tied to foreign supply chains and strategic competitors in critical space technologies.
The legendary Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in our backyard. Our community is continuing to develop the advancements in aerospace and defense technology that not only create jobs but defends America.
This legislation is an ongoing effort in Congress to best to position the United States in an increasingly competitive global space environment.
