Bakersfield, CA – Today taxpayer advocate and community leader Vince Fong announced his candidacy for the California State Assembly. Vince is seeking to represent the residents of Kern County as the Assemblyman from the 34th Assembly District.
“I have worked for years on the issues facing the Central Valley and have watched as decisions are made in Sacramento that threaten our values and our way of life,” remarked Vince. “As your Assemblyman, I will fight for lower taxes and limited government, and will work to ensure that our kids receive the education they deserve and that small businesses have the room they need to grow and create jobs.”
Born and raised in Bakersfield, Vince graduated from West High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s from Princeton University. Vince learned that he could put his passion for serving others to use through public policy and began his career with Kern County Congressman Bill Thomas, working on international trade policy to open up markets for our nation’s farmers and small businesses.
For nearly a decade, Vince has served as the district director for House Majority Leader and Kern County Congressman Kevin McCarthy. In this role, Vince has managed public policy issues for the region, working to create jobs and fighting to improve the quality of life for Central Valley residents. Of note, Vince has helped to lead the conversation on energy independence in California and worked to develop policies that permit business expansion and enhance job opportunities for local residents. He further played a crucial role in organizing the Valley Fever Symposium, bringing the issue into the national spotlight and convincing the leaders in healthcare to conduct research and find solutions to a growing problem for Kern County residents.
“There’s no person I trust more to fight for Kern County than Vince Fong,” remarked Congressman McCarthy. “He has worked tirelessly to bring water to the Valley, to cut red tape so we can produce needed energy, and has been a forceful voice for our local small businesses. He will bring common sense and conservative values to Sacramento.”
A dedicated neighbor and committed volunteer, Vince is a former board member for Goodwill Industries of South Central California, former elected member of the Kern County Republican Central Committee, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He serves on the boards of the Jim Burke Education Foundation and Honor Flight Kern County where he works to send WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam Veterans to Washington, DC to see their memorials.
Vince has already garnered wide support among local business owners, farmers and numerous elected representatives, including: Congressman McCarthy, State Senator Jean Fuller, State Senator Sharon Runner, Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, Assemblyman Tom Lackey, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood and numerous other community leaders.
“Vince has worked for years on solutions to the Central Valley’s biggest problems,” stated Grove. “He’s a homegrown, Kern County native who is sharp and a proven taxpayer advocate. Vince has my full faith and support.”
As an Assemblyman, Vince will bring commonsense solutions to Sacramento, fighting tax increases and working to ensure that California’s policies support the hardworking residents of Kern County.
