Fong bill to support firefighting drones headed for Senate

The U.S. Senate is expected to take up legislation introduced by Rep. Vince Fong that, having passed the House of Representatives unanimously, could advance eastern Kern County’s aerospace industry by supporting the use of drones to help fight wildfires.

The Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response Operations Act is intended to address what the Bakersfield Republican calls outdated and fragmented communications used to coordinate aerial wildfire responses.
