Vince Fong, a Republican candidate for the 34th Assembly District seat, was endorsed this week by Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall.
“There is no one more committed to empowering our community than Vince Fong,” Hall said in a news release. “He has deep roots in Bakersfield and is steadfast in his desire to build a bright future for Kern County. We would be lucky to have someone as dedicated and passionate as Vince fighting for us in Sacramento.”
Fong is among three people so far who have announced their intention to run in June’s top-two 34th District primary. He’s quickly racking up big-name endorsements.
They include his boss, Congressman Kevin McCarthy, state Sen. Jean Fuller and Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, all Bakersfield Republican representatives; Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood; Ridgecrest Mayor Peggy Breeden; and Kern County Supervisor Mick Gleason.
Grove currently represents the 34th District; she’ll be termed out of the office after this year.
Those who’ve also announced bids are Republican Ernie Gollehon of Bakersfield, a correctional officer, and Democrat Perrin Swanlund of Bakersfield, a West High School senior.
